Sunset Crater Volcano from Bonita Park

I first visited Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument in 2001 and still have vivid memories of seeing the lava fields and the colorful volcano rising in the background. Twenty-five years later, I’ve come back and it is still just as other-worldly as I remembered it. I took some slide film photos during my first trip, but digital photography advancements (and a little more experience) allowed me to get much better shots this time. This is my favorite shot where I strategically placed myself in the wildflowers of Bonita Park and waited for the sun to set and let the volcano live up to it’s name!
